Welcome to my upholstery studio in the heart of Shepton Mallet, where I restore and reimagine furniture using a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques. Every piece I work on is treated as a unique commission, with careful attention given to every detail from the first stitch to the final finish.

My passion for upholstery began unexpectedly when a friend invited me to visit her upholstery workshop. It was love at first sight. I was immediately captivated by the creativity, skill, and transformation involved in bringing furniture back to life.

​

Inspired by a deep appreciation for traditional upholstery and hand stitching, I trained at the South West Upholstery School in Radstock, Somerset, under the guidance of upholsterer Tony Carr. There, I earned my AMUSF Diploma from the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers.

​

Like many craft businesses, my journey started small. I worked from my garden and garage before moving into my living room, complete with an industrial sewing machine in the window and a cutting table lovingly built by my husband. Today, I am proud to have my own workshop and shopfront in Shepton Mallet.

​

With its open-plan workspace and large floor-to-ceiling windows, my studio allows visitors to see upholstery in action. People often stop by, fascinated by the layers, techniques, and craftsmanship involved in transforming a piece of furniture. I believe that sharing the process helps people appreciate the heritage, skill, and artistry behind every finished piece.

Community is at the heart of everything I do. Together with fellow upholsterer Debbie, I organised a pop-up upholstery festival at Create 8 on Shepton Mallet High Street during the Sunday Independent Market. The event welcomed more than 300 visitors and celebrated both traditional and modern upholstery practices through live demonstrations, student showcases, interactive displays, and opportunities for local businesses to connect with the public.

I am passionate about promoting sustainability and repair culture. Upholstery offers an alternative to disposal, encouraging people to restore and reuse quality furniture while reducing waste. This approach aligns closely with the values of our thriving high street and helps support a more sustainable future.

From September 2026, I will also be volunteering at the South West Upholstery School alongside Kathy, helping to teach leisure upholstery courses and encouraging people of all abilities to discover the satisfaction of learning traditional upholstery skills.
